I am Pavani Rao Boddapati, a Visual Effects Sequence Supervisor at Weta Digital India in New Delhi. I am responsible for guiding the creative production of images and the technology required while balancing the client’s expectations and the budgeted resources.
I aim to ensure my team remains motivated and creative while working on schedule and within budget.
I know that award-winning visuals come from collective genius, not a solo effort, so I strive to foster a collaborative, friendly, and open environment where ideas and critiques are welcome.
My first job in the film industry was as a Lighting Technical Director on The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe. I’m working on the Avatar sequels, and it’s a dream come true! It’s exciting to discover more of Pandora on my third trip. Working on the Avatar sequels has been a memorable experience.
One of my favorite memories from the first Avatar was when I went with my instincts on a lighting scheme for a sequence on A1 and was thrilled to hear Jim’s enthusiastic approval.
The most surprising thing about my job is the immense work that goes into creating every pixel of every movie frame, like Avatar. People are often staggered by the detail and thought that goes into every asset, every creative choice, and the iterations it takes to reach the quality audiences expect from Weta Digital.
One of my most memorable experiences from seeing Avatar in theatres was feeling goosebumps at the Weta Digital crew screening with a cheering crowd as the credits rolled.
It was a surreal feeling, and it made all the hard work and dedication worth it! Overall, I am proud to be part of the Weta Digital team and to be able to contribute to the creative process of creating award-winning visuals. My experience has taught me to value collaboration and to be open to ideas and critiques. I’m excited to see what more we can create together!
